MALVERN comprehensively beat bottom side Bedworth 55-7 in a rearranged Midlands Two West (South) clash at Spring Lane.

The visitors broke through to score a converted try but Malvern then woke up, with George Withers breaking through for Laurie Essenhigh to dive over.

Ben King added the extras to level and Malvern then dominated in a biting wind.

They went ahead for the first time when Adam Dixon planted a penalty into the corner and Richard Hobbs scored following a catch-and-drive move from the line-out.

Hooker Hobbs got through again and unselfishly offloaded the ball for another try. King converted.

Despite losing Tom Hale to a rib injury after he collided with a goal post, Malvern made it 29-7 by half-time with Essenhigh and George Roberts bagging tries.

Dixon continued to dictate play, with further tries added by Will Gough, King (2) and Essenhigh in the total of nine. King converted three.

Meanwhile, Upton progressed into the RFU Midlands Junior Vase semi-finals with a hard-fought 24-12 win at Rugeley.

They scored the first two tries on the flanks through centre George Ainge and full-back Chris O’Neil, with the latter converting one.

Rugeley levelled the scores at 12-12 by half-time.

But the young Upton side put in a strong second-half display to win with ease.

Ainge and fly-half Matt Cock got the two tries, with Rob Heeley converting one.

Bromyard drew 15-15 at home to Telford Hornets in Midlands Four West (North).

A penalty from Matt Swain and tries from Tom Gallagher and Fergus Hawkins gave Bromyard a 15-point lead.

With Tom Morris sin-binned on half-time, Telford’s strong forwards took control in the second half to level with three unconverted tries.

Ledbury won 18-16 against league rivals Evesham in the RFU Midlands Senior Vase quarter-finals.

Evesham led 11-5 at the break, with James Roberts scoring a try alongside two penalties, but they then fell 15-11 behind.

Zac Bailey crossed to give the Vale side a narrow advantage but they gave away too many penalties, with George Bennion eventually kicking the winning points.

Stu Martin and Jamie Rayfield scored Ledbury’s tries.
