WORCESTERSHIRE League Second XI Division One leaders Worcester Nomads beat Worcester to increase the gap to 27 points over second place.

Worcester’s Nick Brown made 96 in his side’s 249-9 but it was not enough.

Holders Stourport went up to second after they beat Bewdley with one ball left.

Hagley got the better of their derby with Belbroughton despite 129 not out from Simon Burgess.

Pedmore beat Colwall and Evesham saw off Netherton thanks to Tahir Mirza’s 6-53, while Coombs Wood came off the foot of the table by defeating Redditch.

In Division Two, there was a change of leaders after Wormelow’s match fell victim to a thunderstorm the previous night.

Bromyard head the pack after beating Lye, ahead of Feckenham, who saw off Avoncroft.

Harborne won at Rushwick, Droitwich completed a double over Oldswinford and Cookley left it late to secure a winning draw at home to Burghill.

In Division Three, Chaddesley Corbett’s James Towner scored 116 not out to provide his side’s winning springboard in their defeat of Worcester Dominies.

They lead Five Ways by 18 points after the latter’s massive win over bottom-placed side Alveley.

Bromsgrove are third after they knocked off the 149 needed to defeat Bredon, while Claverley beat Alvechurch and Bartestree defeated Kempsey.

Old Vigornians triumphed over Kidderminster with Tony Meek again carrying his bat.

Division Four leaders Himbleton are 24 points in front of Halesowen after they beat Barnards Green and high-flying Himley respectively.

Astwood Bank leapt to third by defeating Malvern and Oldswinford beat Ross-on-Wye with 81 not out from veteran Jon Stanier.

The final match was conceded to Martley by Hanley Castle and Upton due to a lack of players.

Division Five has new leaders after Tenbury slipped to defeat at Redditch and Hallow took over, defeating Enville by 173 runs including Ed Oliver’s 88 not out.

Old Elizabethans are third after a two-run win against Droitwich and Barnt Green climbed back to fourth by defeating eight-men Old Hill by 234 runs thanks to Dan Meredith’s 110.

In the final fixture, Stourbridge beat West Malvern.

Harborne still lead Harvington by two points in Division Six after they both got wins at Romsley and Worcester Nomads respectively.

Pershore lost a high-scoring match at home to Cutnall Green with both sides scoring over 300.

For Pershore, Owen Harrison scored 126 and Matt Evans replied with 129 for Cutnall Green to win in the last over.

Birlingham lost at Hagley and Highley were beaten by Ombersley with Steve Hughes scoring 98.

Cookley replaced Stone at the top of Division Seven North after they won by 43 runs and Belbroughton went second by defeating Pedmore.

Division Seven South’s top four have all won two and had one match abandoned.

Kidderminster, Ombersley Taverners, Bartestree and Worcester have just two points covering them. There is already a gap of 32 back to the last four Bredon, Bromyard, Bewdley and Evesham.

Kidderminster beat Bewdley, despite 71 scored by Robin Drake, Ombersley Taverners won at Bredon after 90 scored by the home side’s Martin Hopkins.

Bartestree skittled Bromyard and Worcester thrashed Evesham.

Meanwhile, the league’s representative XI, captained by Cookley’s Jamen Rudd, beat Herefordshire second XI at Bewdley by six runs.

Worcestershire made 239-5 in 45 overs with Paul Thomas of Cookley contributing 86, Charlie Eastoe of Bewdley making 55 and Dan Platt from hosts Bewdley 35.

The Herefordshire innings was meandering at 108-7 with almost 30 overs spent when Joe Crichard of Brockhampton and Taylor Pugh of Pershore came together.

They contributed 109 runs at more than a run-a-ball and hoisted their side to the brink of an exciting victory.

But Crichard fell for 84 to a third catch by Platt off the bowling of Rhys Williams, who took 3-53.

When Pugh departed for 54 shortly afterwards, the innings ended at 233-8.
