BRANSFORD seniors’ Rob Wetton’s long wait for a first major trophy at the club is over.

The 22-handicapper’s overdue success came in the Norman Taylor Trophy, a stableford off the yellow tees, with 41 points, just one ahead of Andy Lamb (26).

Gerry Rebbeck (15) and Barry Benge (18) scored 39 and then came Ian Hamilton (11), Adrian Wood (25), Phil Spencer (23), Trevor Atkinson (14) and Brian Taylor (23) with 38.

Wetton said: “I’ve won a number of the regular monthly competitions, stablefords and medals and have been near in some of the board competitions in the past, so I’m really delighted to win on this occasion.”

Bransford seniors notched up another home win with a 5-1 success over Evesham.

When Bransford members contested the Professionals Chalice, Jenny Bennett (20) set the standard early on with 72 nett.

Among the later starters were Sean Jones (25) and Steve Taylor (19), who both shot 67, but Steve Collins (14) landed the spoils with 66.

Mike Madden (11) managed 68 and Josh Bourne (20) 72.

A hardy band of four, led by club captain Mark Tipton, completed four rounds of golf at the Bank House venue in a day to raise funds for Help for Heroes and they are still counting the money.
