BRANSFORD’S John Hadley might well have considered bursting into song after his first hole-in-one in the seniors’ November whites stableford.

Hadley, used to hitting the right notes as a member of Powick Community Choir, certainly hit the right shot at the club’s par-three, 187-yard seventh hole.

He said: “We, two playing partners and I, didn’t see the ball drop into the hole because of the ridge that runs round the front of the green parallel with the huge bunker guarding the green.

“I used a 20-degree hybrid club and knew I had made a good contact.

“The ball cleared the bunker but landed on the ridge and it wasn’t until we got to the green and couldn’t see my ball anywhere we then found it had rolled down across the apron and was lying snugly at the bottom of the hole.”

“It’s my first ace and I’m absolutely delighted,” added Hadley, who plays off 28 and he provided the customary drinks for fellow members who were still in the clubhouse post-competition.

His next appearance with the Powick choir is their Christmas special at Stanbrook Abbey on Saturday, December 17 (8.45pm), and also on Monday and Tuesday, December 19 and 20, at 6.45pm and 8.45pm.

However, Hadley was not in the frame for a top-three finish in Division Three, finishing ninth with 27 points.
