BARNARDS Green and Cutnall Green secured victories in Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division One.

Avoncroft (124-5) lost to Barnards Green (125-4) on the final ball in a close contest.

A four required from the final delivery was hit to Mark Wood who palmed the ball onto the back wall above the line but the score stood.

Avoncroft had plenty of opportunities to close the game out with chances dropped, some dives over the ball and a run out spurned.

In the end the Tongue brothers Ryan and Josh survived on 40 each but others except for Blair Kingsland failed to make an impact on the score.

Avoncroft’s innings relied on Wood (41) and Tom Murray (30 not out), while Jon Dovey took 2-27.

Cutnall Green (134-2) beat Droitwich (112-2) by 22 runs but the scoreline flattered the town side.

Spa picked up 49 runs in their last three overs through Rhys John, Ashley Walton and Phil Thomas.

Chasing 134, they were on only 44 at the halfway stage.

The Green innings got off to a flyer with 60-0 at halfway before Paul Hutchins, Matt Harris, Derek Higgins and Ted Baylis all reached their allotted 25 and retired.

There was a short hiatus at 114 as a couple of wickets produced little, allowing the openers to return with style.

In Division Two, Rushwick (79-3) lost to West Malvern (81-0) with 11 balls remaining.

Rushwick failed to get the start they needed, finding themselves on 21-2 after three overs.

Richard Bull (25no) and Ben Bromage (21) could only add a further 12 by halfway.

Only in the penultimate over did Rushwick attain double figures, taking 15 from Matt Penkoks’ final effort then adding only four in the last from Pete O’Connell.

West were circumspect in their response, taking 11 overs to reach their goal but offering little hope to Rushwick by losing no wickets in the process.

Kevin Gilbert and Joe Bird both reached retirement.

Martley (109-5) lost to deserved winners Old Vigornians (112-2) with nine balls remaining.

Eight players got double figures with the bat, while Phil Mackie took 2-20 with the ball.

Martley looked likely to post a higher score but OVs gave away only two wides in the innings and momentum was lost in the final overs.

Ian Flower and Simon van Tongeren both made it to retirement and back with James Ganderton (19) and Alex Basford (15) adding cameos.

In reply, Oz Fiaz retired in the fifth over with one dot ball to his name.

After Elliot Turner’s 13 Azmat Fiaz and James Bader took the game away from Martley, scoring in double figures for the remaining overs.
