BRANSFORD Golf Club were thwarted in their bid to land the league and championship double in the seniors winter league’s grand finale at Bewdley’s Wharton Park.

Having secured the league title by just one point from Wharton the championship trophy eluded them as the favourites won on the day on their home course.

Over a team and individual stableford Wharton triumphed with 351 points ahead of Bransford on 325, Little Lakes on 315 and Burlish Park on 299.

The home squad of 12 performed well collectively as they shrugged off the loss of two handicap strokes in heavy conditions with several fast greens.

Four players finished with a top score of 34 with Wharton’s Ian Wilson and Dave Slade, who both played off 18, and Ken Samuel off 14 and Steve Barker from Lakes off 22.

Victory went to Barker on countback.
