UPTON'S Mark Wilesmith does well from limited rides between the flags but stands a good chance of landing a double at the Clifton-on-Teme point-to-point.

He will hope for success aboard Golanzine in the restricted contest and Jack’s Ranger in the open maiden at Upper Sapey on Sunday when the first race is off at 2pm.

The former had good form a few years ago and seems to thrive in firm conditions.

His fitness has to be taken on trust but apart from Royal Captain, a winner at Paxford in the Cotswolds recently, and The Well Road the opposition does not look strong.

Jack's Ranger ran well when second at Bitterley, Shropshire, 12 months ago and should relish the conditions too.

The consistent Lake Balaton has always found one or two too good for him at the end of races but this time the dice may fall in his favour.

Pat the Pigeon put in a brave display at Andoversford, near Cheltenham, and could impress with James Ridley's presence in the saddle proving crucial as he knows the course well.

The mixed open is run over three miles six furlongs so the emphasis is on stamina.

Nobby Kivambo has stamina in abundance but is a bit of a thinker and jockeys can struggle to rekindle his enthusiasm.

Stable-mate American Legend beat moderate opposition last weekend but the opposition has more ability this time.

Connies Cross and Upton Centurion are others favoured by the marathon trip.

The Jockey Club-sponsored Mares Maiden boasts 14 entries but most have struggled to get into the frame in their races.

Sophie Lacey’s Woolhope stable does well in maiden races which will probably result in the unraced Luck of the Legion receiving plenty of support.

Milan Time is in a good yard and Daisy Back finished third in a maiden recently after failing to complete the course last year.

Allerton and jockey Lilly Pinchin will be a popular choice for the novice riders if turning out again after their success at Andoversford.

But preference is given to American Legend who won at the same venue.

Allerton’s time was quicker than his rival on that occasion but was carrying a significantly lower weight and American Legend might have more to give at the finish.

Three horses are in the two-and-a-half mile maiden and with both Conhalt and Teeton Tinker conceding lumps of weight to Snoopie that could tip the scales in Jack Wallace’s mount's favour.
