STEVE Massey erased memories of past disappointment in the Malvern Hills Ultra by completing this year’s race.

The Malvern Jogger was forced to pull out of last year’s event after 20 miles with a knee problem, but there was no issues this time as he finished the 22-mile race in six hours 19 minutes and 23 seconds.

Mike Anstey completed the 45-mile course, which starts from Abberley Hall School, in 11.48.00 to finish 47th overall.

Fourteen Malvern Joggers entered the Crowle Gunpowder Plot 10K. Jon Newey was first home in 38 minutes 21 seconds, first in V40 and ninth overall.

Sam Burnage was 16th overall in 39.55 followed by Catherine Bowden 44.45, Jerry Greer 47.31, Andrew Brown 49.02, Jon Gray 50.06, Geoff Heron 52.55, Pat Johnson 57.30 Jennifer Daults 1.04.08, Sam Young 1.09.13, Andrew Johnson 1.10.00, Annie Robson and Judy Finney 1.14.39.

Claire Haynes completed her first full marathon in Stratford last weekend and finished in 4.35.45.

“I am so happy with that,” she said.

“That was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.

“I didn’t get under 4.30, but the temperatures were so high. I was pouring water over my head at every water station, but I did it. I’m so happy, but never again.”

Malvern Joggers also tackled the 5.2-mile Shobdon Wood off-road race which sends competitors on well-marked forestry tracks and footpaths.

Part of the route was along the Mortimer Trail which included a mix of level running tracks together with challenging ascending and descending stretches going down a picturesque footpath to the finish.

Matthew Lancett was the first Jogger to cross the line in 45.31. Steve Roode was next home in 46.45 followed by Ben Toon (47.17), Ian Dyson (49.01), Emily Priest (50.13), Ian Walwyn (50.18), Jason Protheroe (50.24), Julie Caseley (50.54), Mike Bolton (53.09), Alison Priest (53.12), Amanda Duncan (55.49), Rhian Protheroe (1.01.18) and Vivien Tolley (1.03.15).
