A FINE display of batting saw Barnards Green record a 84-run Birmingham League Division One victory at Attock under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Dannie Rees smashed his way to a superb 125 runs off just 81 balls as Green scored 380 from their 50 overs.

Attock were then only able to muster up 214-5 before bad light forced the game to be abandoned with nine overs remaining handing the visitors the win.

The home side won the toss and elected to field first, but Green’s openers took them to task early. Andy Ford notched up 62 runs and Ryan Tongue grabbed 38 before Junaid Khan made the breakthrough for Attock, setting Tongue up for an easy catch.

Rees then stepped up to the crease and went on to make his first century for Green. It helped them to move to 350-7, which was further boosted when Attock were penalised 30 runs for a slow over rate.

Also batting strongly for Green were George Rhodes with 61 from just 60 balls and Phil Harris who provided some solid running to rack up 32.

Attock started their chase aggressively, with Josh Tongue and Phil Harris’ bowling proving ineffectual early on.

A change from captain Ash Brewer saw the breakthrough for the Malvern side when Jon Dovey had Arsalaan Mahmood caught for 13.

Just two balls later, Attock captain Rawait Khan was caught for a duck by a sprinting Josh Tongue. Dovey soon took another wicket, this time from opener Omar Masood who was caught just one off his half century.

And despite a valiant effort from Mohammed Qamar Khan (81), Attock saw themselves falling further behind the run rate.

The chase was then abandoned at Wake Green Road to secure Green 20 points and see them climb to eighth. They will be hoping for more success when they travel to Wellington on Saturday (12pm).

Malvern remain bottom of Worcestershire League Division Three after an agonising two-wicket defeat to Five Ways Old Edwardians at The Ramblers.

Oliver Halion top scored with 47 as Malvern were dismissed for 164. Halion and Neil Thompson got three wickets each to pressurise the visitors who clinched the win in the 40th over.

Malvern visit Kempsey on Saturday (1pm).
