LAST season was a 'transitional period' for Hereford midfielder Jamie Edge, according to manager Pete Beadle.

Many supporters were surprised that the former Weston-Super-Mare player was kept on at Edgar Street, with Rob Purdie, Calvin Dinsley and Mike McGrath seen to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

But Beadle says he has total faith that Edge can have a much better campaign next season.

"Jamie was coming out of full-time education and then started working, which can take its toll with travelling to every game, but I have great faith in him," said Beadle.

"He understands that he has got to do certain things better and would be the first to admit that he didn't have the best of seasons.

"He is still a young lad, but with vast experience who spent time at Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion and has played in Conference North and South.

"He is an excellent technician who brings a lot to the table, we just didn't see enough of it last year."
