GEORGE Rhodes and Ryan Tongue scored centuries as Barnards Green swept to victory at Wellington in Birmingham League Division One.

The duo guided Green to 291-9 before getting amongst the wickets as they won by 158 runs.

After winning the toss and batting first Adam Dovey and Tongue established a great foundation. Wellington turned to spin with some success as Dan Lloyd had Dovey (19) caught behind by Charlie Mackleworth.

This brought Rhodes to the crease but the wicket did not stem the flow of runs as Tongue smashed a huge six over cow corner to bring up his 50.

Rhodes also hit a six to secure the 100 partnership off just 94 balls and just a couple of overs later Tongue completed his century.

He couldn’t capitalise on this though as he skied a ball from Matt Stinson to Wendell Wagner for 103.

Rhodes passed 50 before last week’s centurion Dannie Rees was dismissed for just four.

Josh Tongue came in at five and this new pairing maintained a run rate of five an over as Rhodes headed towards his century.

Tongue fell next, clean bowled by Martin Delaney for 15 before Phil Harris (6) and Olly Swift (4) were removed.

Rhodes brought up his century, but his innings finished on 109 as he holed out to Stinson off Dan Vaughan.

Two quick wickets fell in the last over as Ash Brewer was run out by Jack Twigger for two and Dovey (0) was caught and bowled by Wagner. This left Will Dovey (3) and Jack Mackintosh (0) not out as the Green finished 291-9.

Wellington suffered an immediate blow as Neil Edwards was caught and bowled without scoring by Josh Tongue.

He broke through again as Dan Vaughan was caught behind by Brewer for eight.

Dan Lloyd played some lovely shots but he couldn’t cope with a quick delivery from Tongue edging one to Phil Harris for a run-a-ball 31.

Fielder Dannie Rees threw down the stumps with Wagner (14) short of his ground before Jack Mackintosh took three wickets as Wellington went from 67-4 to 90-7.

Rhodes took a wicket with his second ball as Steve Moules (10) was caught by keeper Brewer.

After hitting a six, Stinson was clean bowled going for another swing. Ryan Tongue then stepped in to top off a great day individually and for the team. He claimed the final wicket trapping Daniel Ashton lbw for three as Wellington were bowled out 133.
