A THRILLING last-over finish saw a depleted Colwall side go down by one wicket against Stourport who past a target of 191 to win with just two balls remaining.

Without leading batsmen Ben Cooke and Ben Wheeler and quick bowlers Mike and Jonno Gooch, Colwall faced a stiff task from the outset and struggled for runs early on after being asked to bat.

Joe Blight and James Abel both fell cheaply to the pace of Lee Waldron and Ryan Derrick and when Nick Brown was bowled by Waldron for 18 the home side were struggling on 45-3 after 16 overs.

Ben Butler (27) and Nick Panniers steadied the innings briefly, but when Butler and Fergus Cameron both edged catches behind, Colwall were in trouble on 76-5 before Panniers and Ben Febery came together in a crucial stand of 78 for the sixth wicket, running well between the wickets.

Panniers fell for 40, but the 17-year-old Febery went on to complete a maiden first-team half-century finishing unbeaten on 58 as Colwall were bowled out for 190 in the 49th over.

The visitors were soon on the back foot as fellow spinners James and Ben Febery claimed a wicket apiece, reducing them to 46-3.

But then Mitchell Dwyers and Andrew Siwicki put on 85 for the fourth wicket.

James Febery (2-28) and brother Ben (2-34) completed accurate 10 over spells and when Brown (3-31) came on to remove the lower order Stourport slumped to 178-8.

Dan Newby returned to take the ninth wicket on 183, but with eight needed from Cameron’s final over Dwyers (74 not out) saw Stourport home with a boundary off the fourth ball.

Colwall seconds lost by eight wickets at Stourport after being bowled out for 193 in their Second XI Division One clash.

Opener Ed Pearce hit an attractive 35 early in Colwall’s innings but the rest of the top order failed to fire and only a fine unbeaten 65 from skipper Chris Kendall with support from Nick Pearce (23) and Humphries (20) rallied the side before they were all out in the 46th over.

Stourport made light work of the chase after tea as Colley scored a rapid 116, passing the target in the 27th over.

The thirds kept in touch with the Marches League Division Two leaders as they picked up a 24-point haul from a decisive 54-run home win over Presteigne.

John Card (53), Dick Tugwell (35) and Adam Greaves (56) saw Colwall finish on 202-7 before Dom Bannister (3-22), Card (4-29) and Ben Recordon (2-20) sent Presteigne packing for 148 all out.

The fourths went down by 29 runs in a high-scoring Division Four clash at Bartestree and Lugwardine.

The hosts took advantage of a good wicket to amass 232-7, with Chris Horne taking 3-36. After being given a solid start by Simon Oliver (24) and Phil Steers (19), Ryan Clarke then came in to hit eight fours and a six in his aggressive 51 to steer Colwall to victory.

The in-form Ben Febery had also played a starring role as Colwall under 19’s eclipsed their Brockhampton counterparts by eight wickets in their 20-over trophy clash.

Febery took 4-11 as Brockhampton were restricted to 115-8 before he scored 36 not out along side Ben Morgan (33no) to seal an emphatic win.
