BREAST cancer survivor Janet Adsett demonstrated her fighting spirit again when she completed the Cotswold113 middle distance triathlon event.

Adsett had the most challenging journey of all 13 Malvern Triathlon Club members who tackled the race.

She was diagnosed with the illness earlier this year, forcing her to call a halt to her training programme while she underwent treatment.

But after being given the all-clear she recommenced training and went on to tackle the one-mile open water swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a half marathon run in six hours, 19 minutes and 25 seconds.

The event attracted 1,000 competitors of all ages and abilities. Vikki Sivertsen was third in her age group in 5.16.16, with Clifford Berry the first Malvern triathlete home in 5.11.46.

Results: Clifford Berry 5.11.46, Vikki Sivertsen 5.16.16, Steve James 5.36.06, Bill Adsett 5.41.46, David Dutton 5.42.21, Roy Hart 5.43.12, Jim Hancox 5.52.25, Geoff Heron 6.03.46, Jayne Ackroyd 6.14.01, Janet Adsett 6.19.25, Stephen Clarke 6.20.42, Lorraine Brook 6.52.55, Clive Brooks 7.16.55.

Meanwhile, Nadine Croney and Wesley Ogden entered Bredon’s Hardwick Triathlon alongside 180 other competitors.

The duo undertook a 750m lake swim, followed by 24km on the bike and a 5km run, with Croney completing it in 1.45.51 and Ogden in 1.26.05.

At the end of last month, Wayne Gaulter arrived at Plas y Brenin, Capel Curig Snowdonia, home to one of the toughest triathlon courses in the country.

The Snowman Triathlon sprint event saw Gaulter finish the 400m swim, 30k bike ride through the Welsh tomes of Llanrwst and Bets y Coed and a tough 5K run in 1.45.42.

Elsewhere, husband and wife team Jayne Ackroyd and Richard Fletcher braved torrential down pours as they undertook the Cotswold Standard Aquabike along with Maria Dineen and Dutton.

Jonathan Sage did the full triathlon event.

Results: David Dutton 1.54.45, Maria Dineen 2.03.59 (a personal best on the bike of 1:31:32). Jayne Ackroyd 2.10.09, Richard Fletcher 2.31.38 and Jonathan Sage 2.38.05.

Henry Walker competed in the second Gloucester City Marathon and was the eighth male out of 402 after coming home in 2.55.37.
