WORCESTER Nomads' Terry Birt won the prestigious Bill Jones Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2017 NatWest OSCAs ceremony at New Road.

A host of other pillars of recreational cricket in Worcestershire were acknowledged for their dedication and commitment to the game.

Birt has spent 60 years playing, coaching and organising cricket for generations.

Due to his hard work Nomads' colts section grew to 11 teams and won many county and national trophies.

He claimed the Halesowen Trophy for junior coaching by the Midlands Club Cricket Conference and the Jim Marsh National Coach of the Year Award.

Birt once coached the County juniors, ran a county competition, acted as secretary and treasurer for South Worcester Youth group and arranged fixtures for Worcestershire women and girls at the same time.

Meanwhile, Barnards Green treasurer Robbie Lewis picked up a lifetime achiever accolade at the awards after playing for the same club for 50 years.

Chris Marsh received a special award from Peter Radburn for his service to the Worcestershire League.

He has been administrator of the growing competition for 13 years and is stepping down this year.

Rushwick's Dan Jeynes claimed a young volunteer award for supporting sessions, scoring and looking after their All Stars Programme.

Hollymount School, Worcester, were voted 2017 School of the Year for their cricketing efforts.
