MALVERN rider Evie Richards finished third in the under-23 women’s race at the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

The Great Britain cycling team star continued her strong 2017 form in Val di Sole, Italy to finish behind American Kate Courtney and Swiss rider Sina Frei.

She said: “After a bit of a jumbled week I placed third behind two speedy ladies and I couldn’t be happier.”

This season has seen the 20-year-old win her first ever World Cup race in Germany and back that up with a further four podium results to ensure she ended the series in third place.

Richards' final MTB race of the season is in Cairns, Australia, where she has been selected to race for the Great Britain cycling team in the UCI World Championships.

She will compete on Saturday and will be hoping to bring home her first World Championships jersey in mountain bike cross country.

She will take a break before preparing for a UCI Cat 1 cyclocross race in Abergavenny on Sunday, October 29.
