BRANSFORD Golf Club played their 36-hole strokeplay handicap trophy.

The first-day leader was past winner Marshal Smart (23 handicap) with 86 gross 63 nett.

Carl Wiltshire (19) managed 87-68, Chris Eyers (6) on 75-69 for the lowest gross, Gordon Jack 79-9-70, Dave Lewis 81-10-71 and Louie Turner 91-19-72.

But Smart’s form deserted him on the next day and Turner, whose brother won last year, won with 78-19-59 for a total of 131 ahead of Eyers on 74-6-68 for 137.

Neil Sheldon (21) claimed the seniors’ Norman Taylor Trophy with 39 points from Roy Williams (21) on 38.

Gerry Rebbeck (14), Ivor Lloyd (19), Martin Linley (24), Jeff Carlisle (28) and Peter Anthony (11) scored 36 and Gerry McCurry (28), Keith Edgell (19), Rob Wetton (23), Malcolm Bradley (28) and John Colvin (23) got 35.

Chris Cale (18) topped Division One in the stableford league fifth round on countback with 40 points from June Atkinson (19) with Graham Wilks (18) third on 38.

Division Two went to Barry Benge (19) on 40 ahead of Brian Lawrence (23), Wetton and Geoff Aston (21) on 38.

Linley won Division Three with 42 followed by Dick Bettsworth (25) on 41 and Adrian Wood (25) on 35.

The seniors’ mixed pairs open was won by Bransford’s John Phillips, Ferey Ghani and Jane Smallwood alongside The Worcestershire’s Jackie Marks with 93 points.

Paul Ramsden’s team had 87 and Pete Sheppard’s and Brian Sanders’ groups 84.
