COLWALL have avoided relegation from Worcestershire Cricket League Division One after their home clash against fellow strugglers Pedmore was abandoned.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Colwall reached 20-2 with Mike King (4) and Jon Gooch (1) both falling before rain called a halt to play.

Colwall seconds managed to complete their rain-affected clash at Pedmore in Second XI Division One earning a winning draw after an exciting finish saw the game end in a tie.

Batting first Pedmore were 19-2 when rain forced a two-hour break and an early tea.

When they resumed in what was now a 65-over game a splendid 17-over spell from Colwall seamer Damian Berry, who finished with 5-51, kept the home side in check.

Jack Knight Adams also bowled well without reward, while Ash Jones blew away the tail with 3-14 as Pedmore were dismissed for 159 in the 40th over.

The middle order pairing of Jones (53) and Gibson (35) provided most of their runs.

That left Colwall needing 160 to win from 25 overs and they made a spirited start as Knight Adams (26), Idris Mohammed (12) and Ewan Buttle (14) kept them up with the run rate.

Jones then came in to hit two sixes in his 48 before perishing attempting, a third but Ryan Clarke (20no) and club chairman, Kim Berrry (12) took Colwall nearer the target and a two off the last ball brought the scores level at 159-7.
