GERRY Rebbeck and Dave Ryall enjoyed home comforts at Bransford Golf Club's record-breaking Senior Open Pairs' Betterball.

Some 132 players from as far afield as Nuneaton, Ansty and Monmouth participated but it was the host club's duo that posted a winning total of 48.

The closest challengers were Terry Lawson (Hollywood) and Tony Hill (Cocks Moor Wood) who had 46 and took the first visitors' prize with Tim Rudd (Stonebridge) and Steve Palmer (Nuneaton) and Gaudet Luce’s Andrzej Koziol and Iain Proctor next with 42 apiece.

Bransford’s Chris Hall and Ombersley’s Martin Garrbit were fifth (41), a total that also earned them the first members' prize followed by another home pair, Phil Spencer and Andy Harris (40).

Four other Bransford pairings were also in contention with Harry Corbett and Roy Burston and Harry Godwin and Bob McGrath taking third and fourth members prizes on 39, the same tally as Mike Weaver and Phil Baker and Trevor Atkinson and Pete Sheppard.

Joint organiser Atkinson said: “A huge vote of thanks goes out to everyone for taking part and helping to make the event such a success."

Seniors' captain Alan Wallcroft, who presented the prizes, added: “This is a further bonus for the club’s growing reputation as it follows relatively hard on the record entries attracted to Bransford in June for the Seniors Three-Ball Alliance.”
