BRANSFORD finished second after the fourth and final round of the seniors’ winter league.

Little Lakes were two points ahead going into the contest and held off a late challenge from Bransford to win with 29 points as the two clubs collected seven on the day along with hosts Wharton Park.

Bransford’s total was 27 followed by Wharton Park on 21 and newcomers The Staffordshire on 19.

Dave Miller and Dave Lindsay beat Mike Evans and Peter Round (The Staffs) while Phil Spence and Lee Dyment defeated John Porter and Pete Thurgood (The Staffs).

Bransford’s Dave Wild and Andy Falconer lost to Frank Wheatcroft and Brian Toon (Wharton Park) as did Mike Davidge and Mike Weaver to Brian Wellsbury and Albert Grant (Wharton Park) and Ferey Ghani and Alan Wallcroft to Roger Collins and Eddie Bye (Little Lakes).

Graham Wilks and John Phillips halved against Derek Brooks and Colin Moore (Little Lakes).

The league’s grand finale — a team and individual stableford — will be at The Staffordshire on Tuesday, March 6.

Senior Keith Edgell made light of the difficult conditions.

He was runner-up in February Stableford Division One on 33 points with Mark Season first on 34 and Paul Cooke third on 33.

Edgell then won a stableford off the white tees with 38 from Gerry Rebbeck (35) and Mike Murtley (33).

Charlie Hawkridge topped Division Three in both events with 34 and 35 from Roy Mayo (32) and Allan Rowberry (31) and then Mayo (31) and Falconer (30) respectively.

February Division Two went to Geoff Aston with 31 from Andrew Jarvis on the same score and Martin Linley on 29. Mike Weaver then won with 33 from Aston on 32 and Lindsay on 31.

Rob Richards won the main club’s February stableford with 40 points just ahead of Dave Lewis on 39 with Maks Wyard third on 33.

Another stableford was won by Ollie Walker with 40 from Chris Eyers on 39 and Jonathan Hunt on 36 in Division One.

Mervyn Miles claimed Division Two with 38, four ahead of both Mitchell Smart and Andy Goodall.

Meanwhile, a flurry of pars secured the win for a quartet at The Worcestershire in Malvern Wells in a weekend mixed alliance.

Ian Jukes (20 handicap) recorded seven pars alongside Tina Jukes, April Wilding-Greene and Andy Greene.

Their 83 points secured a victory by four over Diane and Paul Meakin who joined forces with Elsie and Ralph Kelsall.

Doreen Hunt’s 90th birthday celebrations continued with a top-three finish.

Partnered by Liz Pool, Mike Dobel and Peter Hill, their score of 74 pushed newcomers Di and Tim Keates, Duncan Rowberry and regular Pat Rose into fourth.

Twenty-nine ladies contested a 12-hole medford which six holes of medal and six of stableford.

Rose (14) won with 11 ahead of Pauline Savage on 12 and Brenda Jones on 13.
