CHELTENHAM League Division Four leaders Malvern Vale Academy’s 3-1 win ended Prestbury Rovers Reserves’ 100 per cent record in the competition.

They extended their unbeaten run to 15 games after top scorer Ashley Griffiths’ pace caused problems and he finished off a solo run on 15 minutes.

Penalty shouts were turned down with visitors Vale claiming handball.

Title favourites Rovers applied pressure in the second half and it told in the 81st minute when keeper George Weaver was finally beaten after the forward was played through.

But the equaliser spurred Vale on and they hit back with Griffiths twice ending solo bursts with shots straight at the keeper.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men two minutes from time when George Curr kicked the ball away for a second booking.

Vale pushed to secure a late winner and buoyed by four minutes of added time a corner was partly cleared and returned for Griffiths to strike through a crowd of players into the bottom corner.

They remained in control and late on Griffiths passed into the box and Toby Boswell coolly slotted into the corner.

Vale host local rivals Welland Reserves on Saturday.
