THE Worcestershire's first midweek stableford of the season saw Andrew Meredith finish top with 36 points.

Keith McLaughlin was second on 35 and Brian Pleass third with 34.

Pleass moved to the top spot with Hamish Campbell in the Chapman Foursomes with a score of 43.

Three pairs finished with 40 with the best being Andy McCabe and Brian Kendall who took third place.

Runners-up with 41 were Andy Longley and Graham Chatterton.

The Worcestershire seniors were beaten away from home by a strong Cirencester side 5½-2½.

Captain Andy Peet and Les Facer began their round in strong wind then lashing rain and were soundly beaten 5&4.

Mike Morris and Stan Jones recorded a half followed by wins from Terry Cox and Nigel Teale 2&1 and Dave Jones and Graham Hill 5&4.

This was however to be their last success.

Tony Cox and James Noon went down 3&2 and Andrew Colston and Ron Barker 2&1.

Phil Bayliss had to play on his own and was beaten 6&5 and the last match ended with a 4&3 defeat for vice-captain Keith Hitchcock and Alan Homfray.

Lucy Walton performed valiantly over 54 holes in brutal weather at Scotland's St Andrews in the Scholars Championships.

County champion Walton, who has played little golf over the winter due to injury, finished 12th lady overall.

She picked her way cleverly around the Old Course on the final day with four birdies despite not having played the course before.

Walton drove the ball long and accurately avoiding 111 out of the 112 bunkers.

The ladies' Easter bonus ball competition was a tight affair with Lisa Stocker, Jenny Nions and Davina Taylor winning on countback with 78 points.

Cathy Harris, Fiona Lucas and Liz Bird were second and Cath Francis, Ursula Pearson and Geraldine Williams third on 77.
