MALVERN Town comfortably won their penultimate West Midlands League Premier Division game of the season.

They triumphed 4-0 at Dudley Town ahead of Saturday's trip to champions Wolverhampton Sporting Community (3pm).

It took only three minutes for Malvern to go ahead when Sam Rathbone fired a 25-yard shot into the top corner of the net.

Kyonn Evans tried to chip keeper Shayne Maydew but shot over.

But in the 38th minute Josh Hunt fed Shaun Smith who ran on and scored from 15 yards.

Two minutes later, Rathbone played a one-two with Evans before netting his second goal.

Evans drove over and Louis Loader's 25-yarder was held by Maydew.

In the second half, a Loader curling corner was pushed over by the Dudley keeper.

Lewis Platt shot wide before a Loader free-kick from just outside the area in the final minute of normal time flew into the net to complete the scoring.

Meanwhile, forward Hunt is excited by what the future holds in store for himself and Town.

“This is the place to be,” said Hunt who arrived in December.

“Things seem to be moving in the right direction for the club with the new board of directors and plans for the future so it’s exciting to be part of that.

“It’s always difficult joining a new club midway through a season but the lads helped me to settle in pretty quickly and I have been pleased with the progress I have made.

“I set myself a target of 30 goals this season and achieved that, which I am happy about, but next season I want to get 35 and help us win the league.

“There’s certainly been a good mentality from the management and players this season. We’ve been in and around the top two throughout but there have been times when inconsistency has cost us.

“We have huge potential here and we’ve played some attractive football at times so we know what we are capable of and next season we need to make sure we do it on a regular basis to get our reward.”
