DIRECTOR of rugby Rob Cook will look to cap their promotion-winning season with a trophy as Malvern aim to clinch the North Midlands Shield.

Malvern take on Old Saltleians in the final at Dudley Kingswinford on Sunday (1.30pm).

And they go into the clash in buoyant mood after recently securing their place in Midlands One with a 53-12 win over Crewe and Nantwich in the promotion play-off.

This year’s shield has seen the Spring Lane side defeat Ledbury 35-16 and then Old Yardleians 48-12.

A withdrawal from Whitchurch due to a shortage of first-team players gifted them a spot in the final.

Old Salts play in Midlands Two West (North), the same level as Malvern this season, but they came second from bottom this term after picking up just four wins.

Malvern finished second with 96 points in Division Two West (South) after winning 19 of their 22 league games.

Meanwhile, Upton’s final game of the season against Woodrush at Old Street last weekend was postponed as it was deemed a dead rubber and did not need to be played.

Upton finished Division Three West (South) in 10th place with five wins, one draw and 15 losses.
