A DAZZLING display by all-rounder Ryan Derrick dashed Colwall’s hopes of a second successive victory as Stourport won by seven wickets in Worcestershire League Division One.

Derrick first demolished the Colwall top and lower order to finish with 6-61 as the visitors were dismissed for a below par 166 having elected to bat first.

Then, after the hosts had slipped to 37-3 in reply, Derrick came in to smash an unbeaten century as Stourport strolled home without further loss with 20 overs in hand.

Colwall host Evesham on Saturday (1pm).

Derrick had suffered some early punishment as Idris Mohammed hit a six and three fours early on, but recovered to claim the first three wickets, all clean bowled.

Colwall had stumbled to 31-3 before skipper Ben Cooke (29) and James Abel (46) shared a stand of 63 to steady the innings.

Once they were both caught wickets began to tumble to Greg Massingham (3-31) and when Derrick returned for his second spell he whittled out the tail as the innings closed on 166 with nearly seven overs left.

Pacemen Mike Gooch (2-20) and Jack Knight-Adams (1-59) had Stourport in early trouble after tea, but the arrival of Derrick soon turned the tide back in Stourport’s favour.

With partner Mike Pratt (23no) playing the anchor role, Derrick got off the mark with a six and then proceeded to blast 21 fours in a rapid unbeaten 102 out of a stand of 132 that saw the home side to a facile victory.

In Division One Second XI, Colwall were left to rue some erratic fielding and a Stourport last-wicket stand of 47 as they lost a hard-fought clash by just 17 runs.

Colwall stalwart Eddie Hill took 5-45 from an accurate 17-over spell as the visitors were restricted to 127-9 towards the end of their innings after being put in.

But an unbeaten 34 from Brian Worton boosted the total to 170 before the final wicket fell.

Colwall lost early wickets in reply before Andrew Waters (41) and skipper Will Bishop (33) put them back in contention, but once they left the innings gradually subsided, ending on 153.

A fine century from opener Robin Holgate (106) set up Brockhampton fourths for a winning draw against Colwall fourths at Ghost Meadow.

Holgate and opening partner Ben da Cunha (36) were tied down by tight spells from Harry Evans and Chris Horne in the opening 18 overs.

But they cut loose against the change bowlers before Steve Wright (6-30) and Dick Tugwell (2-24) broke through to restrict them to 184-9 off their 40 overs.

Colwall never managed to keep up with the required run rate in reply and closed on 126-6 with Myron Lawrence (36no) and Wright (27) the main contributors.
