WORCESTER Nomads fell to a second consecutive Worcestershire League Division One defeat after losing to leaders Stourport by seven wickets.

Nomads missed key players through injury including captain Ben Schiffmann.

With all the heavy rain it came as little surprise when the hosts inserted Nomads and made first use of the overnight dampness.

The innings started poorly when David White fell in the second over for just a single.

With the score on 18 two wickets fell quickly.

Derek Austin was Charlie Foley’s second victim when he offered a catch to Greg Massingham before Harvey Groves fell trapped lbw by Ryan Derrick for 10.

Stand-in skipper Ollie Ranscombe did his best to hold the batting together as regular wickets fell around him.

Foley ripped the heart out of the visiting batting line-up with 3-16 from nine overs while the more expensive Derrick also grabbed three wickets.

Ranscombe (24) was seventh man out on 60 but Tom Baker and Cameron Blakey provided stubborn late resistance with 30 runs for the final wicket.

Baker was last man out for 34 and the total of 114 was probably as good as the patched-up and youthful Nomads could have mustered in the conditions.

Missing both their usual opening bowlers through injury, fourth-placed Nomads used spin first up and Blakey (2-45) tried to provide bite.

Although Andy Siwicki was trapped lbw by Blakey for nine, the hosts had few troubles in the run chase.

Massingham was the mainstay with 44 in a partnership of 50 with Mike Pratt (17).

All-rounder Derrick finished the game in the 26th over with a brutal 18 off just five balls.
