GRACE Bowen made the most of the half-term break from school by playing in a host of events.

The promising golfer won the gross and nett prizes at Gaudet Luce before travelling to Kings Norton where she landed the best gross score and followed this up at Droitwich with a fourth nett.

Playing off a new handicap of eight Bowen then recorded the only win for The Worcestershire’s ladies scratch team at Kings Norton before heading back into the classroom.

Meanwhile, home players Steve Carter, Andy McCabe, Tom Howells and Brian Kendall came out on top in The Worcestershire’s am-am with 84 points.

Phil Birch, Paul Wakely, Matthew & Richard Higgs took second with 82 while Pucktrup Hall quartet Alex Wiggins, Simon Whitehall, Vince Waldren and Calum Dawes rounded off the top three with 80 points.

In the Professionals Cup, Division One was headed by Mark Roberts on countback from Mark Read Jnr, both with a nett 71.

Roberts registered nine pars and a birdie in his round but came up short of the overall winner.

Division Two was also decided on countback, with Mike Sterry losing out to Jim Hayburn after they both recorded 75.

The outright winner came from Division Three in the form of Nigel Teale with a nett 70.

Teale clinched his third win in as many weeks and has already reduced his playing handicap from 19 to 16 this season.

John Davison finished behind Teale with 73 and Edward Gaynor-Smith scored 74.

Fast greens caught out Tewkesbury in their annual friendly with The Worcestershire’s ladies.

All four greensome matches were won by the home team of Pauline Savage and Pam Emery Reynolds, Sue Wood and Christine Goody, Jill Brierly and Mo Riley, and Brenda Jones and Julie Saunders.

In the Ladies’ Veterans Trophy, three players tied on 34 points were pipped with 35 from Cathy Harris.

Liz Rooney collected the novices trophy with 22, Kate Cross won the nine-hole stableford with 17 and Thomas Deehan took the honours with 37 points in the midweek stableford.
