WILL Burgess claimed his first PGA title when he won the 2018 Bill Firkins Memorial Pro-Am at Stourbridge.

The Leigh Sinton golfer, who was among 18 professionals competing in the event, came out on top thanks to a gross score of 70 and 36 points.

He recorded eagles on the third and ninth hole before landing three of his four birdies on the back nine as his level par round was enough to win the competition.

Burgess said: “This was my ninth tournament as a professional golfer so it was great to get a win so early on in my career.”

The victory sees Burgess climb to second in the Worcestershire PGA order of merit which includes 30 professionals.

Burgess also formed part of a team that featured amateurs Stewart McFerran, Rob Watts and Simon Bailey at Stourbridge.

The quartet finished 11th out of 19 teams after scoring 76 points.
