WORCESTERSHIRE’S George Rhodes took nine wickets as Barnards Green thrashed Leamington Spa in Birmingham League Division One.

Spa were dismissed for 74 as Rhodes claimed 9-23 in 11.4 overs.

An unbeaten 39 off 26 balls from Ryan Tongue completed a nine-wicket win for Green.

Leamington captain Jonathon Wigley chose to bat first and Green turned to spin in just the seventh over with immediate effect.

Wigley was run out taking an ill-judged run to Phil Harris in the covers so Waqar Ahmed joined Luke De Souza with the score on 18-1.

They reached 46 in the 17th over when De Souza holed out to Blair Kingsland at short cover for nine.

This started an unbelievable 20-ball spell from Rhodes where seven wickets fell for no runs off his bowling, reducing Leamington from 46-2 to 61-9.

Two double-wicket maidens, a wicket maiden and a double-wicket over followed.

In the 19th, Ahmed (21) was caught at slip by Tongue and William Mashinge holed out to Josh Blunt at deep mid-wicket for a second-ball duck.

The 21st over saw Matthew Payne and James Williams bowled.

In the 23rd, Chris Calcott was also bowled for a duck and in the 25th Sulaiman Hussain was caught at slip by Tongue before Kingsland took a catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Matthew Davidson.

Last out in the 29th over was Nabeel Asghar caught by Jez Clarke at mid-on.

In reply, the score raced to 45 off just three overs including two wides and 20 byes.

Rhodes (7) was trapped lbw but then Mahaaz Ahmed (6 not out) and Tongue, with eight fours and a six, took advantage off every bad ball bowled for victory in the 10th over.

The seconds fell just 11 runs short of a Division Two South victory at Sutton Coldfield who were bowled out for 193 thanks to Ben Sutton (4-47) and Monzur Ahmed (3-41).

Green lost regular wickets in reply with Rob Wilson (23) and captain Andy Wheeler (66) the only scorers of note in the top eight.

Despite the best efforts of Monzur Ahmed (18) and Tanbir Ahmed (18no), Green had to claim eight points from a losing draw.

At Newland, Green's thirds made it two straight wins with a nine-wicket Worcestershire League Division Seven victory over Harborne who were bowled out for 151.

Ollie Davies and Ant Eyles took a brace of wickets and Ben Clarke 3-35 while keeper Mark Haffield claimed three catches.

Chris Hill and Nick Davies put on 79 before the former was bowled for 34.

Max Middlebrooke (28no) and Nick Davies (69no) hit boundaries as Green claimed victory in the 27th over.
