LEDBURY moved out of the Marches Cricket League Division Two relegation zone with a valuable four-wicket victory at leaders Glangrwyney.

On a hot day the hosts won the toss and decided to bat first.

Ledbury captain Josh Evans opened the bowling alongside Vicky Evans making her first-team debut.

Vicky Evans (1-27) impressed right from the start with a solid line and length and it wasn’t long before she bagged her first wicket to set Ledbury on their way.

Harry Eales (1-37) and Carl Foskett (1-31) picked up a few more wickets leaving the hosts on 99-3.

Ledbury let things slip in the middle overs but they remained positive.

With a few late wickets from Josh Evans (3-52), Glangrwyney set a competitive target of 233-8 to beat.

From the start of Ledbury’s innings, the experienced Matthew Ehrlich looked positive even with the early dismissal of Richard Orders (9).

Tom Willis was looking to bat himself into form but got caught for a brief 20.

Ehrlich started to let the boundaries flow and the target was looking ever closer.

But Derrick Osbourne (3-50) took two quick wickets which included Ehrlich who went for a classy 57.

This brought skipper Josh Evans to the crease who was in desperate need of runs but most importantly a team win.

He was positive from the start accompanied by Brandon Caffull.

Boundaries were flowing for the captain and pressure was increasing on the hosts as he brought up a quick 50.

Things seemed to be Ledbury’s to lose until Caffull was dismissed for an important 18.

Young Eales joined Josh Evans and they built a match-winning partnership of 63.

Eales ended on 12 not out and Josh Evans 87no with 10 fours and two sixes.

Fifth-placed Ledbury take on Ameley at home on Saturday (1pm).

The fourth-from-bottom seconds had a 24-point winning draw at home to Bartestree and Lugwardine thirds in Division Three.

Ledbury were asked to bat first and totalled 241-6 from 55 overs with Robert Yeoman (51), Phil Caffull (27), Paul Barnes (34), Matthew Hartness (34) and Neil Andrews (36no) all chipping in.

The visitors were restricted to 204-8 with Barnes taking 3-44, Andrews 2-16 and Sebastien Fell 2-36.
