THIRTEEN-year-old Grace Bowen triumphed over a talented field at The Worcestershire in Malvern Wells to lift the ladies’ championship salver.

The talented junior led with gross 76 after the first round of the 36-hole event with Cath Francis and Jackie Marks her closest rivals on 82 and Cathy Harris fourth on 83.

But another 82 by Francis and an 81 by Harris resulted in an unprecedented three-way tie on 164.

Three holes were played in regular format followed by sudden death.

On the fifth extra hole, Bowen buried a 15-foot putt to secure the crown, relegating former champions Harris and Francis to the minor placings.

Jackie Marks lifted the Scott Cup for the best nett over the 36 holes for the fourth consecutive year.

The Worcestershire hosted the annual junior open with the entry tripling the number from last year including home players Harry Brimmel, Charlie Cain, Gus Milton and Bowen.

Milton, former winner of the junior club championship, continued his good form by winning the boy's trophy with 38 points ahead of Brandon Sarfo from Gaudet Luce with 36 and Jack Belli from Stourbridge with 35.

The girls' event doubled as an order of merit for the county.

Isabelle Badger from Halesowen won with 42 ahead of Megan Langford from Moseley on 39 and Bowen on 38.

Mike Travis took the seniors tankard round two with 40 points ahead of Robin Marling with 38.

The ladies lost narrowly in the Kath Noble Trophy at Worcester Golf and Country Club.

The top eight out of 12 individual nett medal scores were added together to find the winner and Worcester finished with 607 from The Worcestershire on 611.

Meanwhile, Alexander Park seniors played a team Texas scramble.

Ian Caves, Ray Saunders and Keith Smith won with 62 points from Don Filer, Jim Bland and Mike Pearce on 64 and Tom Boswell, Gregory Brunt, Roy Caffull and Dave Thrower on 66.

The seniors played a stableford with Bland (14 handicap) winning with 43 points from Steve Thompson (19) on 39 and Alan Shakesheff (17) on 39.
