SOME much-needed rain with cloudy conditions greeted Malvern Anglers for their Dick Oakley Shield match on the River Severn at Holdfast.

Although the river level remained low with little flow, there was some colour to indicate the bream could be feeding.

From the ensuing match results, it was evident good shoals of bream had settled at each end of the water.

At the top upstream peg on the water, Dave Harris regularly caught bream up to almost 6lb using swim feeder with worms and maggots to finish with a winning 56lb 8oz 0dr.

Drawn at a downstream peg, Ian Goddard used similar tactics to catch a similar net of bream but just falling short of winning with 52-4.

The bream shoals did not move much towards the other anglers in between the first two with just the occasional large bream featuring in the other weights and just 14-1 from Ken Yates being enough for third place.

Frank Edwards caught 12-0, Steve Warren 8-8, Chris Loveridge 8-3, Nigel Bayliss 6-10, John Shaw 2-12, Lee Harman 2-0 and Clive Harman 1-1.
