LEDBURY Town remain top of the Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division following a 2-0 victory at Tenbury Town.

Charlie Docherty and Harri John found the net for Pat Locke’s and Dean Rutter’s side to make it nine points from their opening four games.

Curt Williams missed from the spot but Town stay at the summit on goal difference with Westfields Reserves and Wellington Reserves level on points.

Ledbury visit second-from-bottom Kington Town tomorrow (2.30pm).

There was disappointed for Ledbury Town Reserves who slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Hinton Reserves in Division One.

With player-manager Nick Blakeway and new captain Nick Bolton ruled out through injury Ledbury were up against it.

And they fell behind on five minutes when teenage stand-in keeper Alistair Holder was chipped for the opener.

The remainder of the opening period was relatively quiet with defender Callum Blackmore-Davey and Asten Griffiths holding firm.

Sam Branch made the Hinton keeper work as his shot was palmed away on 23 minutes.

The first period ended on a sour note for the hosts as stand-in captain Mark Taylor appeared to be felled in the box only for their penalty appeals to be turned down by the referee.

It was then Hinton’s turn to complain to the official after a contentious free kick was awarded to Taylor two minutes after half-time.

But their dismay quickly turned to joy as some hesitation from Holder in possession of the ball in the box saw the visitors make it 2-0.

Ledbury had their chances as Taylor put a 62nd minute cross from Griffiths over the woodwork.

Griffiths then nodded the ball wide after Kieran Loveridge rode two challenges before digging out a cross.

The hosts continued to mount pressure as Josh Burns could not quite reach a cross-come-shot from Griffiths before flicking a free-kick wide of the target.

Ledbury’s failure to find that elusive opening goal was further punished when the visitors found their third from a corner.

With three minutes to go Town got on the scoresheet as Luke Cox produced a terrific delivery for Burns who fired home.

Ledbury ended the match on the front foot as Blackmore-Davey made one last charge down the far wing before feeding Loveridge who was unable to apply the finishing touch.

Town will look to put the disappointment behind them as they host Hereford Lads Club Reserves in the first round of the Herefordshire FA Junior Cup on Saturday (2pm).
