DESPITE persistent and heavy rain throughout the morning, the Breast Cancer charity day at Bransford Golf Club on Bank Holiday Monday proved to be an outstanding success.

Around 20 teams of three braved the wet weather to take part in a stableford format Pink Peril fun competition, in which a pink ball was used alternately by the members of each team and counted for double as long as it wasn’t lost during the round.

Because of the poor conditions the competition was restricted to nine holes and was won by the team of Chris Large and Steve and Don Bolton with 59 points, six ahead the trio of Matt Waterhouse, Ian Pritchard and Stuart Wood.

Large also won the prize for the longest drive on the par five sixth, while the day’s booby prize went to the team of Anne and Ian Hamilton and Mike Holmes.

But what delighted everyone who took part the most was the announcement that the event had raised around £400 for the charity.

Bransford’s ladies have just held their Bader Salver competition which produced a tight finish with just one point separating the first three pairings.

Following a count-back, the duo of Leigh Thomas and Jodie Bennett finished first with Sheila Richards and Jenny Musson runners-up after both pairs had scored 37 points.

Third place went to Barbara Ramsden and Lesley Lammas with 36.

Bransford senior men’s visit to the scenic Shropshire course of Cleobury Mortimer produced frequent showers and squally winds, as well as a victory.

In a closely fought encounter, Bransford just edged the match 3½ - 2½.

The scores, Bransford names first, were: Neil Sheldon and Harry Godwin lost to Roger Darby and Roger Harrison 5 and 4; Adrian Wood and Ian Hamilton won against John Conboy and Ken Sedgley 2 and 1; Ferey Ghani and Stan Parnell won against Mike Edmundson and Graham Job 3 and 1; Jeff Thomas and Ian Elrick lost to Trevor Stanley and James Griffiths 1 down; Mike Davidge and Alan Wallcroft halved with Keith Gardner and Colin Onions; Bill Bowen and Roger Clarke won against Stewart Hobbs and Tony Wilson 7 and 6.
