MALVERN Town hope their first win of 2012 will inspire them to a strong finish to the season in West Midlands League Premier Division.

The Langland Stadium side won 2-1 at Stafford Town last Saturday, coming from a goal behind courtesy of strikes from Lee Hooper and Dave Reynolds.

As well as being their first victory since the turn of the year, it was also their second game without defeat following the 2-2 home draw against Shifnal Town.

That has boosted the confidence levels and manager Les Jones believes it is no less than they have deserved for their recent efforts.

He is now looking for Malvern to continue that momentum when they host Worcestershire rivals Bewdley Town tomorrow (3pm).

“We haven’t been playing badly and losing but we have been playing pretty well and not winning,” he said.

“Last Saturday was a very good win away from home at a difficult place to go.

“I was really pleased because it was a total team performance. It wasn’t a case of some individuals doing well, the whole squad was fantastic.

“It was probably the best team performance of the season. There’s no lack of character in the squad, it’s just that we have been unlucky.”

Jones added: “Bewdley beat us 4-0 at their place earlier in the season although we dominated the game so it will be a really difficult fixture.

“They are a well-established club and have always been in and around the top six.”

Right-sided player Robbie Cullen has been ruled out of the Bewdley match with a groin problem, while midfield pair Anthony Smith and Paul Edwards are still missing through other commitments.

Teenage midfielder Reece King has been promoted to the squad following a series of impressive displays for the reserves to give him experience of first-team football.
