Football - Lions roar to division two title

WELLAND Juniors Lions are celebrating after claiming the Mercian Festival Junior League Under 11s Division Two title.

They won promotion and silverware after beating mid-table Newtown Sports Colts 4-1 in their final league game of the season.
Meanwhile, player-of-thematch Nathan Ince bagged a hat-trick as Malvern Town Wanderers saw off struggling St John’s Colts Athletic 6-2 in Under 13s Division Two.
Elliot Hawkes opened the scoring mid-way through the first-half with a well-placed shot and Kane Bruton extended the lead a few minutes later.

Town continued to dominate in the second period and were soon rewarded with two quick goals from Ince followed by Bruton completing his brace.

The hosts seemed to relax and were punished by two St John’s goals but Town stepped up the pace again and Ince secured his treble.
􀁥 Elliot Street scored his first hat-trick for Malvern Town Wanderers Swifts in their 10-1 beating of Droitwich Spa Rangers in Ambassador Evesham League Under 12s Pool ‘B’.
They maintained fourth spot in the table despite conceding a surprise opener after a slow start.
Malvern started to play good football and were rewarded after quarter-of-an-hour when Keiran Burston was on hand at the edge of the box to slot the ball home.
Adam Buckley’s fine solo run saw him beat the keeper at the near post and Adam Rushton made it 3-1 at the interval.
The second period was a onesided affair with Street’s treble and further goals for Buckley, Rushton and Burston.
Jake Norris was rewarded for a fine individual display when he calmly slotted the ball home from eight yards to give Swifts their biggest win of the season.
