Golf - Players come out in force for contest

FORTY-four players took part in probably the last mixed competition of the series at The Worcestershire in Malvern Wells.
The stableford alliance was made up of two ladies and men with one score from each gender to count at each hole.
The winning team with 80 points was Corinne Mills (18), Nigel Mills (22), April Wilding (26) and Andy Greene (15).
Three points behind were Ursula Pearson (7), Peter Pearson (19), Jackie Marks (14) and Anthony Marks (16), while third on 75 were Penny Stevenson (26), Oliver O’Kane (17), Vivien Marsden (26) and Chris Price (17).
The closed mixed competition will be on Monday, May 7.

In the women’s section, Janet Long and Jenny Jones scored 32 points to win the Australian spoons foursomes for bronze division players and progress to the regional finals.
The runners-up were Elsie Kelsall and Jan Kirkland with 31. A foursomes for silver division players was won by Liz Bird and Ruth Scott with 36 from Jane Tromans and Jill Exell (33).
In the third round of the Mail on Sunday regional competition, The Worcestershire’s team of five were defeated for the second successive year at Tewkesbury.
