Golf - Ovens is skipper

NEVILLE Ovens was appointed Ross club captain for the second time at their recent annual meeting.

Ovens, who last led them in 2004, replaced Fred Stott at the Gorsley course and was supported by 120 members at his drive-in event.

In the Florida scramble medal competition, Geoff Thomas secured a hole-in-one and Terry Jarrett's team of Clive Whitson, Danny Gear and Dave Hart won with an impressive 59.7 nett.

The runners-up with 60.6 were Norman Lodge, Brian Cartwright, Stephen Gregory and Andrew Hobbs.

St Michael’s Hospice and the RNLI are the charities supported by Ovens with £480 raised in the opening event.
