Powick’s title challenge gets timely boost with Raiders KO
11:00am Saturday 14th April 2012 in Sport
POWICK edged past Worcester Raiders 4-3 to boost their Worcester and District League Saturday Division One title challenge.
But they went a goal down early on when the defence failed to deal with a long ball which fell for the Raiders striker to chip keeper Daniel Geisler.
Captain Lee Barmby soon headed in a corner to level and then Simon Haywood prodded home from close range after good work by Andy Martin.
However, just before the break, the visitors equalised with a deserved effort which went through Geisler’s legs.
Powick fell behind again through a 30-yard volley into the top corner but, with 15 minutes left, Martin passed for Bryan Craven to restore parity.
Martin crossed from the left and Stu Harvey nodded on for centre-half Darren Baker to head a late winner into an empty net.
Powick continue their push for a third successive league title at Nunery Wood tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Newtown Sports ran riot at fellow high-fliers Hallow, leading 5-0 at halftime.
They eventually won 7-1 with Josh Asquith (3), Tom Milner (2), Alex Wren and Matt Bannister on target.
In Division Two, Helio Menses hit a hattrick for Powick Reserves in a 6-4 defeat at Perrywood Reserves.
