Celebrations galore as Upton mark their 30th

UPTON-upon-Severn celebrate their 30th anniversary on Saturday with a festival of rugby at Old Street.

Ray Gidley also hosts his president’s day on an action-packed afternoon for the Midlands Two West (South) club.

Four games start from 1pm with Hanley Castle High School’s teachers and former students kicking off against Upton veterans.

A women’s touch rugby match will follow between a Hanley Castle invitation team and Upton.

The main game will see Upton firsts tackle Gloucestershire’s Painswick, who have three of Gidley’s sons as members.

During half-time, the under 11s face their Painswick counterparts.

Money raised in the afternoon will go to cancer charities.

In the evening, the club host their celebrations in a marquee at the sports pavilion with a repeat of the successful 25th anniversary party and a rugby shirt theme.

There will be a pig roast and casino along with music from band Bash:Roland made up of former Hanley Castle pupils and a member of the rugby club.

The money made at the evening event will fund Upton’s floodlights project.

Tickets, costing £20, are available from the Anchor Inn, Upton, by ringing club secretary Rob Heeley on 07980 255783 or email rob_heeley@yahoo.co.uk
