4:08pm Friday 27th April 2012 in Sport
WELLAND recorded three victories in visits to Cheltenham over Montpellier, Barometrics thirds and title-rivals Cheltonians.
This boosted their Cheltenham League Division Five championship hopes with Rory Mathews bagging a hat-trick in a 7-4 victory at Cheltonians.
James Lush swooped and Ben Pearson coolly converted a penalty but the hosts levelled on each occasion.
Pearson netted again, after Cheltonians went ahead for the first time, to make it 3-3 at the break.
Despite conceding a fourth goal, Welland claimed the points with Mathews notching his treble alongside a Matt Tedds header.
The villagers also beat Montpellier 3-1 with Mark Taylor and Lewis Dixon (2) on target, while Barometrics were seen off 4-0 thanks to goals from Lush (2), Mathews and Dixon.
Malvern Town Wanderers Colts Under 12s won their last fixture before disbanding, beating Newtown Sports Colts 5-1 in Mercian Festival Junior League Division Two.
Brave Dan Dalton-Golding played in memory of his mother, who died from cancer recently, and scored the fifth goal after beating two defenders. Megan Jones and Jordan Roan put Colts two goals up before Dalton- Golding found James Mac- Dermott on the left and his low cross was turned in by a defender for an own goal.
Billy Coleman and Dalton- Golding struck before Newtown got a late consolation.
A youth match was abandoned when one of the teams was left without enough players to complete the fixture.
Newtown Sports Juniors Under 18s only had seven available to start their Mercian Festival Junior League match at Kidderminster Lions Youth and trailed 7-0 at half-time.
However, an injury to a Sports player meant the visitors went down to six and, under FA rules, the game could not continue. The fixture was abandoned but the result will stand.
Newtown Sports Juniors and Mostyn Rangers Youth contest the Worcestershire FA Under 14s Cup final on Sunday at Malvern Town’s Langland Stadium (2.30pm).
Mercian Festival Junior League side Juniors were runners-up last year to Ombersley Swifts and beat Bewdley Town 5-1 and Kidderminster Lions 6-0 this time round.
