TWO young Malvern United anglers fished the club’s junior cup at Mathon Pool in muddy conditions.

Despite a prolonged period of heavy rain, it was a close contest and both caught a mixture of perch, roach, rudd and skimmer bream throughout.

Although they had about the same number of fish, Matthew Seabourne- Thomas (pictured left) caught slightly bigger skimmer bream than his opponent Jack Styles.

His weight of 4lbs 12oz was caught on bread, while Styles’ 3-14 had smaller samples caught on pellets.

Seabourne-Thomas also lost a good carp near the end of the match.

The River Avon contest at Bredon was cancelled due to flooding but it is hoped another contest at the same venue can be arranged before the end of the season. The Malpas Cup will now be contested at the Willow Farm outing on Sunday, August 19.
