Town targeting top 10
11:00am Friday 12th October 2012 in Sport
MALVERN Town will be looking to climb into the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division top-10 when they entertain league cellar-dwellers Willenhall Town tomorrow (3pm).
The Langland Stadium side, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Wednesfield last time out, are currently 12th, but will be expecting to climb the table this weekend when they take on a side that have managed just three points from 11 outings this term.
Against Wednesfield, Malvern created several first-half chances, but couldn’t make them count as the game reached the interval locked at 0-0.
In the 57th minute, Wednesfield’s Anthony Follows fired in an effort and Ian Hill, in the Malvern goal, had to push it away for a corner.
From the resulting flag-kick, Hill missed the ball and Tim Clarke’s clearance fell to Follows, who slotted home to give Wednesfield the lead.
In the 65th minute, Rob Cullen’s free-kick went right across the goal-line, but no-one was able to tap it in and the chance was wasted. Malvern equalised in the 71st minute when the ball was played to Cullen, who found Ed Lyons to set up Dave Reynolds to fire past advancing keeper Sam Arnold.
Lyons had a chance to win it in time added on when he was put through one-on-one with Arnold, but the keeper saved a point for his side.
