Welland take first points of leaders
3:50pm Saturday 13th October 2012 in Sport
WELLAND visited Cheltenham League Division Four leaders Leckhampton Rovers, looking to become the first side to take points off them this season, and came away with a fine 4-2 victory.
Welland took the lead after 25 minutes when Lewis Dixon deflected a Mark Taylor freekick into the path of Andy Brannelly, who finished from close range.
It wasn’t long before Welland found themselves 2-0 up when some good midfield play allowed Tom Soley to break clear and finish well.
In the second-half, Welland scored a third when Dixon’s long throw-in was expertly headed home by Dan Stowe.
Rovers replied with a good close range effort and on 70 minutes, they scored a second.
Some excellent defending from Churchill and Gullick kept Rovers at bay, before Nathan Henton rounded off the scoring after some great work from James Lush.
