Rowing - Cox is the captain as Barker moves up

AT the recent annual meeting of Upton Rowing Club, Steve Cox, one of the club’s original founders, was elected captain, replacing Peter Barker, who was made a life president.

The rest of the committee remained substantially the same as last year, with John Dean being replaced by Andy Freeman as boatmaster, following the former’s resignation from the post.

Crews are busy training for the Stourport Small Boats’ Head, to be held on November 3, and the captain’s ‘mini-heads’ will be run regularly throughout the winter, the first being scheduled for Sunday, October 28.

The club meets at 8.30am on Saturdays and 10am on Sundays, while there is also winter training in the form of circuits at the Hill Centre every Wednesday at 7.30pm.
