WORCESTER Nomads ‘A’ joined Cutnall Green at the top of Worcestershire Indoor League Division One.

The Bransford side amassed 139-0 and then dismissed their ‘B’ team – who put up a great effort – for 122 to win by 17 runs.

For the ‘A’ side, Sam Roberts, Lewis Austin — treating his father Derek’s bowling with appropriate respect, Ryan Tongue and Rich Henry all made their ration and retired.

They finished with a flourish by taking 19 from the last over.

In reply, Guy Davies (22) and Derek Austin (31) scored only 11 from the first two overs but then the latter hit Rich Henry for three consecutive fours followed by another 13 runs from the fourth.

It brought the ‘B’ team to 37-0, which was the same as the ‘A’ outfit after four overs.

Dominic Badger was on the receiving end of both openers, conceding 17 runs in the fifth over and 18 in the seventh.

Tongue bowled Davies before the ‘B’ team collapsed with two run-outs in both the eighth and ninth overs, including the wicket of the returning Derek Austin after his initial retirement.

Oli Ranscombe put down a marker on the way to the inevitable with a fine last-ditch effort to be run-out in the final over for 31.

Royal Grammar School (99-4) lost to newcomers Hallow (101-4) with an over left in the other game in the division.

Hallow recorded their first win, despite turning up short of players due to a late unavailability.

Playing against only five fielders, RGS failed to exploit their advantage.

Elliott Bartlett (32no) was their best batsman with support from Ben Allen (23no) but in general, scoring was too slow.

Hallow bowled well and only conceded two wides as Stuart Hayes took 2-15 and Scott Hodgetts conceded just 18 runs.

In reply, Dave Pugh (51no) took on the bowlers from the start and retired in the fourth over with the score on 37-0.

Connor Murphy (11) played tip and run until he was caught before Pugh returned and was last man standing in the 11th over.

However, he hit the 12 runs required to take him past the 50 mark.

In Division Two, Worcester Nomads ‘C’ (150-4) beat Malvern (66-3) by 84 runs.

A one-sided game saw Malvern fail to put Nomads ‘C’ under pressure throughout.

Gentle bowling allowed Nomads a quick getaway with Tom Webb (30) and Jamie Oliver (29no) both retired by the sixth over with 61 runs on the board.

Nick Jones (25) and Josh Hawes (13) kept up the pace before both batsmen were found at the same end.

Malcolm Jones (26no) and Cameron Blakey (10) provided the last pairing.

In the final rush, two further unnecessary run-outs put a dent in the rate, which might prove influential in April.

Malvern’s reply was unfortunately not from the same stable. The team were lacking three strong players from last year and it showed.

Lewis Hill spent the entire innings at the crease for 16, while skipper Steve Lake came in at number five to score 13 in seven balls.

Bromsgrove (92 all out) lost to Droitwich (94-3) with nine balls remaining in the other game in the division.
