HARD-HITTING batsman Henry Coleman has started the new season with a flourish, blasting two centuries in his first three league matches.

The 21-year-old cracked 152 for Colwall seconds in a high-scoring winning draw against Bewdley seconds at Stowe Lane in Worcestershire League Second XI Division One.

Coleman helped table-topping Colwall to 344 all out last Saturday and was at the crease with his brother Freddie, who made 66, when he reached three figures.

Connor Franklin hit 103 as Bewdley replied with 280-5 but Colwall picked up the lion’s share of the points in a high-scoring clash.

Coleman’s efforts have earned him the accolade of the second Worcester News player of the week for 2015, for which he wins a £25 Fearnley Factory Shop voucher.

“I am feeling OK with the bat at the moment,” he said.

“I have only been to one net session but I feel in good form and made 135 not out in the first game against Netherton seconds.

“I was going OK against Bewdley and they brought on a spinner and it all went from there.

“I think I hit the spinner for four sixes and a four from his first over and that was the turning point in my innings.”

Coleman smashed 53 runs in an 11-ball period during his knock and shared a good stand with his brother.

“I was batting at number three and Freddie was at four and we were together for at least 20 overs,” he said.

“It was nice to be at the crease with him when I reached my century.”

Unfortunately, the boys’ father, Richard Coleman missed the fireworks – he arrived at the ground just after Henry had been caught at long-on.

Coleman enjoys batting against Bewdley - he struck a big century in the away fixture at Bewdley last season.

In 2012, Coleman took a liking to the attacking of Herefordshire team Garnons in the Marches League.

He battered 18 sixes in an unbeaten 181 for Colwall thirds as they overhauled Garnons’ seconds total of 204 in just 11.3 overs.

And, earlier that season, he broke two bats as he hammered 200 against the same opponents.

Coleman played representative age-group cricket for Herefordshire from under 10s level.

He now works full-time at his family’s farm near Fromes Hill.

Colwall's opponents on Saturday, Evesham seconds, will be relieved to hear Coleman is likely to be missing.

“There is a big young farmers’ rally this weekend and my brother has signed me up to do something for him,” he said. "It looks like I won't be playing cricket."

He added: "I have made a good start to the season and I am enjoying it. I hope I can stay in the seconds."
