ALL six Birmingham and District Cricket League Premier Division games were abandoned without a ball being bowled on a soggy Saturday.

The eagerly-awaited clash between the top two clubs in the table, Walmley and Kidderminster Victoria, was one of the first to fall foul of the weather.

The Division Three match at Whitchurch began on time and visitors Worcester took advantage by racking up a daunting 297-6 with Fabian Allen smashing eight fours and six sixes in a blistering 87 from 54 balls.

Earlier in the innings, Joe Blight hit a measured 60 from 105 balls and Tyler Ward added 46 from 64 balls to allow Allen and Ian Cottrill (57 not out) to take advantage of a tiring attack. Maisam Hasnain took 3-82.

After a delay at tea and a further interruption of 10 overs, Whitchurch chased a total of 212 for a winning draw and reached 77-3 from 12.4 overs when the match was abandoned.

Hasnain top scored with 32. The remaining five matches were all abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Early-season Division Two strugglers Brewood almost pulled off a sensational win over Old Elizabethans in a 25-overs-a-side draw at Perdiswell Park.

After slumping to 43-5, a sixth-wicket stand of 89 between Richard Hewitt (55) and Luke Bird (38) helped the Staffordshire side to a competitive 154-7 at the close of the innings.

Hemaka Pathirinage (3-28) did the early damage, including the wicket of Cameron Fox for 28, while Liam Booth chipped in with 2-32 and Matthew Davis took 2-30.

After the loss of Jake Saunders for nine, a second-wicket stand of 57 between Jamie Boyle (55) and John Major (27) took OEs to 91-1 from 16 overs.

But an astonishing collapse, inspired by Bruce Thomason (5-15), saw them crumble to 126-9 at the close.

A battling 54 from Matthew Clements, who was seventh man out, steered Coventry & NW to 151 all out in 46.1 overs against Shifnal at Ellesmere College.

A breezy 27 by Steve French boosted the total, while Shifnal’s Jack Edwards and Charlie Home returned identical figures of 3-28.

Shifnal had reached 58-1 from 21 overs when play came to a premature halt with skipper Tom Collins unbeaten on 24.

The other four games in the division were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Moseley’s long Division One trip to Oswestry was rewarded with four batting points as they piled up 277-6 from their visit to Morda Road.

The first four in the batting order reached half-centuries with opener Adam Din scoring 79.

Scottish international Andy Umeed (53) helped Din put on 127 for the first wicket, while Asim Shoaib and John Williams were both dismissed for 52.

Oswestry had reached 33-1 from 9.2 overs when the rain returned to finish the game.

The other five games in the division were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
