BARNARDS Green reached the ECB National Club T20 Midlands finals day a week on Sunday with a 19-run win over visitors Wolverhampton in the last eight.

The North End Lane hosts restricted the higher-ranked Birmingham and District League Premier Division club to 135 all out after scoring 154-7 on being asked to bat first.

Ash Brewer (4) and Andrew Curtis (0) departed early before George Rhodes and Nathan Newport took Green past 50 in the 10th over.

Newport (9) was run-out as was Andy Ford for 27 off just 17 balls.

In-form Elliot Hennessy and Rhodes attacked with several huge sixes before the former was caught in the final over for 22 off 13 balls.

Jon Dovey (1) was run-out and Rhodes stumped off the final ball for 82 off 58 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.

Green had scored 102 off the final 10 overs and Dovey gave them a fine start in reply by catching Amritpal Singh off his own bowling for a duck.

Jack Mackintosh snapped up Will Nield (6) off Ford but Wolverhampton progressed well before Rhodes made a double breakthrough in his second over.

Ben Twohig (26) was caught and bowled before Ross Aucott (24) holed out to Newport.

Mackintosh and Rhodes (3-29), via a Brewer stumping, claimed two more wickets to leave Wolverhampton requiring 90 runs off 10 overs.

The Bowyer brothers hit sixes as the score reached 114 in the 15th over when Curtis bowled Dan Bowyer (27).

Wolverhampton needed 25 off the final two overs with three wickets remaining but Dovey (3-29) claimed two victims with successive balls.

Curtis (2-9) completed Green’s win by bowling Andy Bowyer (28).

On June 28, Green face hosts Walsall in the semis (11am) for the right to play Shrewsbury or Moseley in the final (5pm).

Green host Worcester in the Birmingham League Twenty20 Challenge Cup on Wednesday after winning by four wickets at Bromsgrove.

The hosts finished on 151-9 with Mackintosh (2-12) and Ford (2-18) the pick of Green’s bowlers as Ashley Newfield (37) top scored.

Green, missing Rhodes through Worcestershire duty, won on 153-6 through skipper Phil Harris (42 not out) and Stewart Hepburn (23no).

Jamie Tapper added 26 and Brewer 18 with Bromsgrove contributing 28 extras.

Saturday’s league games were rained off for Green, who visit Harborne in Birmingham Division One tomorrow (noon).
