MALVERN College hosted the annual Bunbury Festival with England and Worcestershire’s Moeen Ali presenting caps to the boys on day one.

Sixty-two boys selected for the under-15s regional trials in the past have gone on to play for England, while 684 out of 1,569 have featured in first-class cricket.

Two competitions, involving 50 overs and Twenty20, were contested between four regions and Malvern College’s Jack Haynes captained the Midlands side.

Matches were played at Malvern College, Barnards Green and Worcestershire’s New Road ground.

The Midlands won one and lost two to finish fourth in their 50-over group and finished runners-up in the Twenty20 final.

Founder Dr David English said: “Out of all of our 29 Bunbury English Schools Cricket Association (ESCA) festivals, Malvern College was the most magical.

“The friendly and relaxed atmosphere encouraged the boys to play with enthusiasm and a zest for life, which in turn inspired and impressed the hierarchy of English cricket watching every ball.

“It was surreal to think that, just 30 miles up the road, 10 of the 11 England players who were beating Australia were former Bunbarians, many of whom had enjoyed the Malvern experience.

“Indeed, it was Moeen who presented the caps to the boys on day one.”

English’s Bunbury celebrity cricket team have raised £17 million for different charities and worthwhile causes.
