WORCESTER and Astwood Bank remain embroiled in a Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Division Three survival fight going into the final weekend.

Bank’s victory over leaders C&R Hawks gave them a chance but they remain in a battle with their county rivals, who lost to Aston Manor, Whitchurch and Pelsall to avoid joining relegated Kings Heath and Water Orton.

The key game on Saturday may be Pelsall’s visit to Worcester, where a win should see either side safe.

Worcester’s 181-9 proved insufficient with Manor sailing past for the loss of three wickets. Liam Weston top-scored for Worcester with 44.

A second-wicket stand of 152 between Rahul Bakshi (100) and Adam Nevitt (61) saw off Worcester.

At 107-7, Bank were in trouble against Hawks but Tom Harris (28), Michael Desmond (32), Jon Summers (18) and 14-year-old Muhammed Safiyan (6 not out) helped them to a respectable 184.

The reply was dominated by Omar Ali (46) but, once he was out, the spinners took over, particularly Andrzej Jagielski (3-5) and Summers (3-13), to turn the game in Bank’s favour.

Berkswell can finish second in the Premier Division after a 28-run victory over Kidderminster Victoria, who were unbeaten in the 50-over format. An opening stand of 125 between Darren Maddy (87) and Mark Best (51) laid the foundations for their 253-8 before Kidderminster replied with 225 all out.

Nathan Round (55) and Neil Pinner (54) battled but Chris Cheslin (3-40) and Maddy (3-46) saw them fall short.

Ombersley were involved in a drab four-wicket defeat to county rivals Barnt Green.

They struggled to 121 all out and the visitors replied with 122-6 in 33.1 overs.

Ombersley’s Oliver Uffindall and Green’s Tom Brown scored 27, while home spinner Matt Rawnsley took 4-19.

Walsall clinched the Division One title despite a 37-run defeat to Bromsgrove.

Jayden Levitt’s 101 saw Bromsgrove to 185 all out with support from Alexei Kervezee (32) and Tom Underhill (20).

Bromsgrove slumped from 170-5 to 185 all out but Walsall were in trouble on 45-6 due to Graeme Whiles (4-21).

Himley defeated Barnards Green by 64 runs with Wasim Jaffer (84) and Greg Wright (40) guiding them to 252-6 with Phil Harris taking 3-28.

The visitors were dismissed for 188, including a half-century by Harris (52).

In Division Two, Bridgnorth’s Dale Quiney (5-36) and Tom Weaver (3-19) combined to dismiss Old Elizabethans for 128 despite 56 from Johann Smit.

David Exall (37) eased the leaders to another win.

Victory for Eastnor ensured the two relegated sides will not be known until the end of this weekend’s game between Brewood and Stourbridge.

Eastnor will survive if they defeat Coventry and NW and Brewood beat Stourbridge after a seven-wicket win over Shifnal. Muhammed Ayub hit 52 for Shifnal but 3-34 from Raheel Lone saw them bowled out for 115.

An unbeaten 39 from Kamran Mehran and 28no from Suleyman Shah helped preserve Eastnor’s place for at least another seven days.
